We offer over 30 species of plywood. Thicknesses range from 1/8 inch to 3/4 inch depending on the species. Plywood has many advantages over solid wood in cabinet construction. It is considerably more stable, making it a much better alternative for cabinet carcasses, and it is much more cost effective than solid wood in terms of constructing a cabinet body.
Veneer core (VC) plywood is made with alternating veneered inner plies. VC panels are relatively light in comparison with medium-density fiberboard (MDF) core panels, typically weighing around 70 pounds per 4'x8' sheet. VC offers great strength with better spanning properties than MDF core. It also has a wider variance in thickness in comparison with MDF. One downside is there is a higher probability for the product to warp before construction.
MDF plywood has a fiberboard core with a solid wood veneer exterior. It offers great stability and is the least likely to react when subjected to a measurable change in temperature or humidity. It offers a very smooth, void-free surface for veneer faces that makes for superior finishing surfaces. However, MDF is heavier than VC plywood, weighing around 100 pounds per 4'x8' sheet.
